Sorting garbage by hand is a lot of work, especially for the United States. America produced 292.4 million US short tons of garbage in 2018 alone, according to the EPA. There is no way government waste management programs will be able to pick up that tab. A possible solution is AI sorting machines. This new technology allows us to automate the sorting process, saving thousands of labor hours all at a lower cost. A promising new innovation by alphabet resulted in a waste contamination of less than 5%. This is incredibly promising. The United States is more than affluent enough to implement automation in our waste management, so this is not out the realm of possibility for us.
