Almost everybody understands that recycling is important. Done properly, recycling can be healthier, be safer, be cheaper, and provide job opportunities. But the convenience of a general trash can is not something many Americans want to give up. Sorting through your trash can seem long and boring, but it is necessary to ensure the health and safety of our planet and everything on it.
Recycling properly is also important. If one person recycles something that should not be recycled, or was not recycled properly, the entire recycling load could be in jeopardy. To minimize this issue, cities need to provide sorted recycling and waste services so that Americans can sort their waste knowing that it will be recycled properly. That is a change that must happen on the legislative level. For now, Americans will need to continue to group all of their recycling into one container hoping that it will be sorted.
